Will power

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about will power. Okay so I’m going to toot my own horn. It takes a lot of will power to stop smoking, lose weight and stay with a five-day exercise regime. If you want to do whatever bad enough somehow you’ll get it done.

So, I’m a little, over two months smoke free, which at the moment doesn’t bother me to much because I’m on a tight schedule for revisions. In those two months, I’ve lost 17 pounds and a clothing size. I’ve determined that keeping up with my health and looks takes a lot of my time. I also have learned that I let myself get in a sorry shape.

So it will take the whole year to get where I want to be and not scare fans at book signings. Which in a round about way brings me to my point. And yes, I’m long winded today. Does it take will power for a writer to stick their butt into a chair and work. Some days it takes a lot of will power to get anything done. What about you?

Oh, it takes me lots of willpower to get anything done, most days. Some days I fly through tasks that are normally long, torturous procedures, but usually it's forcing myself to do it. Even when it's something important to me, that I love--like writing.

Actually, sometimes it seems that I have to force myself more when it's something important.

I know what you mean. I sit down to work and my mind says it's time to clean the toilet. Or some shit.

Somedays it's not about willpower. Saturday I sat down to work and never got more than a line before I got a phone call, or a visitor, or found my daughter repotting my plants... All the willpower in the world didn't help me with that one.
I think a lot of things come down to habit. You have to make exercising and writing a habit, and have to break the bad habits.

Michele that's a good point, I never thought about it that way.

Lol, my willpower is zero most days at the moment. I have to force myself out of bed to get to work, force myself to get through my day job, then force myself to do writing in the evening. I got a lot done last week when I was off work, but now I'm back at the day job, I have no energy or desire to do anything besides sleep and complain.

Don't feel bad Nomi, I feel like that most of the time too but I just bluff my way through.

aww now. Yall come on... let's pick ourselves up, and shake it off. Listen, this writing thing, is the most wonderful gift. We all have it. let's just enjoy it. AND exercise? Oh goodness. Think of the people with no arms and legs and those in hospital with no way to get out of bed... makes it more simple right?

(sigh) now if only i could sell that swamp land i have down in florida....

Oh yeah, it takes a lot of will power to quit smoking. Tell me about it! But you what? In the long run, it's rewarding. I quit smoking 21 yrs. ago, and it's best decision I made in my life. And as you can see, you're having great results because of your decision. Down one clothes size? Woohoo! Pretty soon you're going to be fitting in those tight jeans again. Heh!

tempest, I'm trying to turn back the clock a few years before I turn forty. Maybe than it won't be so bad.
